Your first appointment starts with your intake form. This is a detailed health history to be completed by you prior to your massage therapy appointment. The intake form may be sent to you electronically at the time of booking or you can arrive a few minutes early to complete it at the clinic. The information contained in this form will help your massage therapist gain a better understanding of your overall health and treatment goals, while also ensuring a safe and effective treatment for you. The information you provide is kept confidential.
On the first appointment, you can expect a more detailed interview with your therapist in reviewing your intake form. This may include, with your consent, discussion and questions about your health history or performing physical assessments. Together, you and your massage therapist will then develop a treatment plan and discuss any potential risks to you. At this point, your therapist will confirm your consent for treatment. Keeping in mind, that consent is fluid and at any time you may revoke it.
An important part of your massage therapy appointment is the homecare that your massage therapist may recommend as part of your treatment plan. This could include a combination of therapeutic exercises and stretches, hydrotherapy applications or modification recommendations to your activities of daily living. The homecare presented is specifically tailored to meet your end treatment goals. Your therapist is there to support you in reaching those goals.
If you have further questions about your massage appointment such as what to wear, how draping works etc. please see our FAQ page or call us in Victoria at 250-383-1664
"Obtaining consent requires ongoing communication between the RMT and the patient. It is the RMT’s legal and professional responsibility to make sure that this communication occurs, and that the patient’s consent to treatment is both informed and voluntary"
